About Michael
Michael Colavita is an accomplished choral conductor, performer, composer, and educator dedicated to cultivating excellence in vocal music. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
Michael serves as the Director of Music Ministry at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Palmetto Bay, where he oversees the church’s music program and conducts the choir.
He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Music and Neuroscience from Washington and Lee University, and earned his master’s degrees in Choral Conducting and Music Education from the University of Louisville. His past roles include directing the Singing Cardsmen at Louisville, leading the choral program at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, and directing the high school vocal program at Miami Arts Charter School in Wynwood.
As a conductor and performer, Michael’s career has taken him around the world, including engagements in South Korea, Sweden, Ireland, and Thailand, as well as a featured performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. His diverse musical background and interdisciplinary academic training inform a thoughtful, student-centered approach to music-making and education.
